Overview

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a national scheme in Australia, that provides funding for supports and services for people with permanent and significant disability. It is designed to help people with disability achieve their goals and aspirations, and to improve their quality of life.

The NDIS provides funding for a wide range of supports and services, including but not limited to:

  • Assistive technology and equipment

  • Home modifications

  • Personal care and support

  • Therapy and rehabilitation

  • Transport

  • Community access

  • Support coordination

Eligibility for the NDIS is based on the person's disability and functional capacity, and not on their diagnosis. The NDIS is available to Australian citizens and permanent residents who are under the age of 65 and meet the disability and residence requirements.

NDIS is funded by the Australian Government and it's designed to be an insurance scheme. It aims to provide people with a permanent and significant disability with the reasonable and necessary supports they need to live an ordinary life.
